About the Canadian Dental Care Plan in Calgary
Apply for the CDCP at canada.ca/dental or by calling Service Canada at 1-833-537-4342. Once approved, you will receive a CDCP card. Book your appointment at Royal Oak Smiles, let us know you have CDCP coverage, and we will direct-bill the plan on your behalf. Yes. Royal Oak Smiles is a CDCP participating clinic and submits all CDCP claims electronically on behalf of eligible patients. You pay only any applicable co-payment amount at your appointment — or nothing at all if your family income is under $70,000/year. Our administrative team can also help confirm your coverage before your appointment. Call (403) 374-6161.
Co-payment under the CDCP is based on household net income from your most recent tax return. Patients with family income under $70,000/year pay no co-payment — 100% of covered services are paid by the federal plan. Incomes of $70,000 to $79,999 pay a 40% co-payment. Incomes of $80,000 to $89,999 pay a 60% co-payment. The CDCP does not cover households with income at or above $90,000.
Yes. Children under 18 are eligible for CDCP coverage if their household meets the income and insurance eligibility criteria — no private dental insurance and family income under $90,000/year. Royal Oak Smiles welcomes families seeking CDCP-covered care for their children, including preventive services, diagnostic exams, fillings, and other eligible treatments. Call (403) 374-6161 to discuss your family's coverage.
The CDCP is designed for Canadians without access to private dental insurance. If you have coverage through an employer or group benefit plan, you are generally not eligible for the CDCP. However, if your private insurance covers only certain services or has annual limits, speak with our team — eligibility depends on the specific nature of your existing coverage. We can help clarify your situation before your appointment.
